Forging a relationship with the world’s largest Muslim-majority country
The AJC Asia Pacific Institute (API) strives to forge and strengthen relations with Indonesia, a young democracy that is the largest Muslim-majority country in the world. Despite a strong tradition of pluralism and tolerance, the country is challenged by Islamic extremism and expressions of antisemitism, frequently tied to anti-Israel sentiments. Israel and Indonesia do not have diplomatic ties.
API seeks to engender an accurate understanding of Jews, Judaism, and Israel’s place in the world. We have also worked for over a decade to build upon common interests to foster a close U.S.-Indonesia relationship. We have successfully built and strengthened relations with religious leaders, religious and academic institutions, and prominent business and Indonesian government officials to promote mutual understanding.
