American Jewish Committee Calls Updated FBI Hate Crime Statistics a Good Step Toward Understanding Depth of Antisemitism in U.S.

AJC welcomes additional data in the 2021 Hate Crimes Statistics Report and thanks the FBI for efforts to bridge the gap from the incomplete data in the report, which is the only official record on the state of hate in America.
Supplemental hate crimes data was report from 96 reporting agencies in nine states and reflects hate crimes data from major Jewish population centers such as Los Angeles and New York City.

The Holocaust may have been the ultimate manifestation of what is known as the world’s oldest hatred, but it did not abate following the liberation of the Nazi death camps 78 years ago. In fact, antisemitism has been rising in the United States and Europe at alarming levels, fueled in part by social-media rants, conspiracy theories and naked anti-Jewish hate.

AJC to Convene Meeting of International Antisemitism Envoys at the White House as Part of U.S. Strategy to Fight Antisemitism

American Jewish Committee (AJC) will convene a meeting of antisemitism envoys from other nations as part of the efforts of an interagency group created by President Biden to build a national strategy to combat antisemitism.
The envoys and AJC are slated to meet with Biden administration officials at the White House on Feb. 28. “AJC is convening this meeting at the White House because we know that effectively combating antisemitism at home requires lessons and best practices from abroad,” said AJC CEO Ted Deutch.

American Jewish Committee Urges Social Media Firms to Confront Antisemitism on Platforms

American Jewish Committee (AJC) has launched an awareness raising campaign to urge social media companies to take concrete actions to address the spread of antisemitism on their platforms. The campaign follows the release of AJC’s State of Antisemitism in America Report 2022, which showed troubling numbers of Americans are experiencing antisemitic content online and on social media. “The report underlines the need for more to be done to fight antisemitism in the digital world,” said AJC CEO Ted Deutch. “Social media companies must do more in the fight against antisemitism, first by ensuring their platforms are not used as launching pads for conspiracies and hate targeting Jews.”

In the latest State of Antisemitism in America survey from American Jewish Committee released today, 69% of those polled said they had heard of antisemitism and knew what it meant, up from 65% in 2021. In addition, 68% believe antisemitism is a problem in the U.S., up from 60% last year. For those who don’t know, antisemitism is the hatred of Jewish people—plain and simple. And for those unsure of whether antisemitism is a problem in the U.S., let me assure you that it is.
