China

Reinforcing positive trends in an emerging relationship

China’s emergence on the global stage over the last decade impels world Jewry to pursue mutual interests with the Chinese people, address common concerns, and build upon these cooperative endeavors to help ensure the well-being of the Jewish people and Israel.

Already the world’s second largest economy, China is rapidly expanding its foreign policy role not only in its own region but around the world. Israel is attractive to China because of its reputation as the “start-up” nation, with cutting-edge developments in high-tech innovation, cybersecurity, agriculture, water, and biotechnology. In addition, China has a vested interest in seeing stability in regions where it has important investments, such as the Middle East.

AJC’s Asia Pacific Institute (API) is uniquely positioned to reinforce these positive trends in China-Israel and China-U.S. relations. We work to strengthen relationships and form alliances with opinion leaders, decision-makers, and relevant organizations throughout the country. API maintains ongoing dialogue with the Chinese government by meeting with U.S.-based diplomats, hosting visiting Chinese delegations, bringing AJC delegations to China, and working with the Israeli Embassy in Beijing. Through AJC Project Interchange, API brings delegations of Chinese foreign policy experts to Israel.
