AJC Statement on Belgium’s Announcement Regarding Palestinian Statehood
September 4 2025
Belgium’s announcement of its intention to recognize a Palestinian state is, like similar pronouncements from other nations, counterproductive to the stated goal of achieving a two-state solution, even with Brussels making clear that such recognition is dependent upon the fulfillment of specific, well-defined conditions.

With Arms Embargo on Israel, Germany Crosses a Historic Red Line
August 20 2025
Germany could do much more to impose financial pressure on Hamas since it is a hub for the terror group’s fundraising and money-laundering operations. At the same time, Berlin must continue to support Israel as it works to free all the hostages and defeat Hamas, instead of weakening the one country in the region capable of doing so.

AJC Calls on German Government to Reverse Arms Embargo on Israel
August 12 2025
American Jewish Committee (AJC), the global advocacy organization for the Jewish people, strongly opposes the German government’s decision to impose a partial arms embargo on Israel and urges Berlin to reconsider.

AJC Statement on UK Announcement Regarding Palestinian Statehood
July 29 2025
Today’s announcement by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer that the United Kingdom intends to unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state in September—unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire and meets a list of other one-sided conditions—is deeply alarming. It sends a chilling and dangerous message in the aftermath of the October 7, 2023, massacre: that terrorism, mass murder, rape, torture, and kidnapping are viable means of achieving political objectives.

Major American Jewish Organizations Decline Meeting with French Foreign Minister Over Premature Palestinian State Recognition

AJC Statement on France’s Announcement to Formally Recognize Palestinian Statehood
July 24 2025
Today’s announcement by French President Emmanuel Macron to formally and unilaterally recognize Palestinian statehood without any preconditions at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September comes at an extremely troubling time, with Hamas continuing to reject proposals for a ceasefire and the return of the remaining hostages.

American Jewish Committee Salutes Opening of Chad Embassy in Israel
February 2 2023
American Jewish Committee (AJC), the global advocacy organization for the Jewish people, welcomed today Chad President Mahamat Déby’s inauguration of his country’s embassy in Israel. “Chad’s opening of an embassy in Israel is a significant development. The continuing renewal of Israel’s diplomatic relations with African nations is vital for expanding mutually beneficial relationships that initially began decades ago,” said AJC CEO Ted Deutch. “Chad joins the growing number of African countries with a diplomatic presence in Israel that greatly contributes to the overall building of bilateral and regional relations with Africa.”

Ukraine and the Meaning of Israel in 2022
February 21 2022
There are as many as 300,000 Jews living in Ukraine today. Whatever happens in the weeks and months ahead, they know they don’t have to face the prospect of homelessness. And that’s because, thankfully, Israel is a reality.

Can The UN Finally Cease Its Relentless Anti-Israel Bias?
September 13 2021
In an unprecedented initiative, spearheaded by the Transatlantic Friends of Israel, 312 cross-party lawmakers from the European Parliament and national legislatures from EU member states, the U.K., Switzerland, Norway, the U.S., Canada and Israel have urged EU member states and fellow democracies to end the systematic discrimination against Israel at the UN. A Europe that wants to stand for democracy, human rights and the rules-based international order can no longer be complicit in this cynical game, which treats Israel by separate rules and in so doing undermines the UN's very own integrity and efficacy.

AJC Praises Introduction of House Resolution Urging EU to Fully Designate Hezbollah as a Terrorist Organization
July 26 2021
American Jewish Committee (AJC) welcomes the introduction today of a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives urging the European Union to designate Hezbollah in its entirety as a terror organization. “We encourage swift passage of this important bipartisan resolution pressing the EU to do the right thing and correct the fiction of a bifurcated Hezbollah it endorsed nearly a decade ago,” said AJC CEO David. “Mistakenly believing it can tame Hezbollah’s behavior, a proposition unsupported by evidence, the EU has created ‘military’ and ‘political’ wings within Hezbollah, when, in reality, it is a single, unified terrorist entity."

Europe Can’t Fight Antisemitism While Ignoring Threats To Israel
December 14 2020
I write as a friend, who has said more than once that the EU is the single most ambitious and successful peace project in modern history. But if the EU is serious about tackling antisemitism and preserving historical memory of the Holocaust, it cannot neglect, minimize or wish away threats to the existence of Israel, the world’s lone Jewish-majority country and home to nearly 7 million Jews.

The government announced today that it “adopted a decision on treating the Hezbollah Group as a criminal and terrorist organization posing a threat to peace and security.”
