As the world marks the third anniversary of Russia’s brutal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, and its sustained campaign of human rights violations and war crimes, American Jewish Committee (AJC) reaffirms unwavering solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.

As the global advocacy organization for the Jewish people, AJC has sounded the alarm on the many global implications of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine over the last three years. Russia’s continued illegal war, its efforts to undermine European stability and unity, and its ever-deepening alignment with Iran, China, and North Korea all pose grave threats to American and European interests, democracy, and the Jewish people. The risks of a power axis that embraces the Iranian regime and furthers its ability to jeopardize the security of the State of Israel and the stability of the Middle East cannot be ignored.

Countering these threats requires a united transatlantic response that builds on decades of joint efforts to create an international order that has protected peace, strengthened democracy and respect for human rights, and upheld the values that allow free nations to prosper. The transatlantic alliance is not just a matter of principle—it is a strategic imperative for America’s security and economic strength.

Any proposed solution to ending Russia’s aggressive war must preserve Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and provide security guarantees for Ukraine that deter future aggression–including a path toward NATO membership. Both Europe and the U.S. must hold true to and even bolster commitments to defense, and work together to push back against the malign activities of Russia and its collaborators.

In 1991, AJC became the first Jewish organization outside Ukraine to call on President George H.W. Bush to recognize the country's independence from Moscow. Since then, AJC has stood in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and staunchly supported a free and democratic Ukraine. It will continue to do so as the country enters its fourth year of fighting for its survival.

AJC is the global advocacy organization for the Jewish people. With headquarters in New York, 25 regional offices across the United States, 15 overseas posts, as well as partnerships with 38 Jewish community organizations worldwide, AJC’s mission is to enhance the well-being of the Jewish people and Israel and to advance human rights and democratic values in the United States and around the world.
