American Jewish Committee (AJC), the global advocacy organization for the Jewish people, thanks President Donald Trump for taking historic and decisive military action against the threat of a nuclear Iran and praises the United States military servicemembers who carried out these strategic, limited, and targeted strikes against the Iranian regime’s nuclear sites.

“Today’s U.S. military operation striking three of Iran’s most crucial nuclear sites is an historic turning point in the decades-long quest to prevent the Iranian regime from acquiring nuclear weapons capabilities,” said AJC CEO Ted Deutch. “Contrary to what some will say in the days to come, the U.S. administration did not rush to war. In fact, it gave diplomacy a real chance. The murderous Iranian regime refused to make a deal. In the face of overwhelming evidence of Iran’s growing nuclear threat, President Trump took targeted action to dismantle the regime’s nuclear infrastructure and preserve global security, and we thank him for this decisive and warranted operation.”

AJC supported President Trump’s position of attempting diplomacy to end Iran’s nuclear ambitions as a first step, but the President and his administration warned that if the threat grew too great, the U.S. would take military action. The world will be safer when the threat of Iran’s illicit nuclear weapons programs is dismantled once and for all.

Today’s actions come just more than a week after the Iranian regime was sanctioned at the IAEA for systematically deceiving the world about its nuclear program. This deception not only poses an imminent threat to Israel, but to the entire international community.

In joining Israel’s effort to eliminate the Iranian nuclear threat, the U.S. demonstrated the indelible strength of the U.S.-Israel alliance and the unshakeable values shared by the two countries. The world cannot allow the Iranian regime – the world’s largest state sponsor of terror – to obtain nuclear weapons, capable of reaching Israel and Europe, or to be provided to the regime’s terror proxies around the region and across the globe. Together, the U.S. and Israel have severely hindered this major threat to global security.

As the Iranian regime continues to launch missiles at Israeli civilians, its threats to retaliate against American interests in the region must be taken seriously. We urge U.S. allies and partners to make very clear to the regime that counterattacks will be met with serious consequences.
