Following decades of sustained advocacy by American Jewish Committee (AJC), the European Union announced its decision in January 2026 to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
The result of this designation is tangible impact—disrupting IRGC operations, strengthening international coordination, and reinforcing global security against the world’s foremost state sponsor of terror.
As the global advocacy organization for the Jewish people, AJC has long warned global leaders of the consequences of the Iranian regime’s illicit pursuit of a nuclear weapons program, its systematic human rights abuses, and its constant efforts to destabilize the region, threaten U.S. interests, and endanger Israel and our Arab partners.
