Everything You Need To Know About Threats Posed By Iran

American Jewish Committee (AJC) sounds the alarm on, and advocates against, the Iranian regime’s destructive and destabilizing role in the world, which includes repeated calls for the annihilation of Israel; support for terrorist organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah; dissemination of antisemitism; violation of the JCPOA (the agreement reached in July 2015 with the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany); active assistance to the Assad regime in its murderous campaign against the Syrian people; expansionist interference in the internal affairs of other countries; and pervasive human rights abuses.

AJC, through our offices around the world, works every day to spur the international community to counter the Iranian threat.

The resources below include facts and key insights into Iran related topics.

Israel's Fight Is For Its Future -- And Ours
June 24 2025
The Iranian regime’s nuclear ambitions are not some distant diplomatic dispute. They represent an immediate, existential threat to Israel. For many of us in South Florida, this is not simply a matter of foreign policy — it is deeply personal.

Streaks of light from Iranian ballistic missiles are seen in the night sky above Hebron, West Bank, as Iran resumes its retaliatory strikes against Israel. The renewed wave of attacks follows heightened regional tensions and comes in response to previous Israeli operations targeting Iranian territory.
Iran's Secret Nuclear Program and What Comes Next in the Iranian Regime vs. Israel War
June 18 2025
Since Israel launched Operation Rising Lion—a precise and defensive military campaign aimed at preventing the Iranian regime from acquiring nuclear weapons—Iran has responded with a barrage of ballistic missiles and drones, indiscriminately targeting Israeli civilians. Dr. Matthew Levitt, director of the Reinhard Program on Counterterrorism and Intelligence at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, explains what’s at stake—and what could come next.

Iran's Terrorist Expansion to Latin America
November 25 2024
Too few people realize the full extent of Iran’s role in backing terrorist groups across the Middle East, from Hamas in Gaza to Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen. Even fewer are aware of Iran’s expanding influence in the Western Hemisphere, threatening regional stability and U.S. security at an alarming level. But we can’t afford to ignore the threat any longer. It’s time for the U.S. to act, forging a comprehensive plan with our allies to preempt Iran’s geopolitical ambitions in our own neighborhood.

Along with her mother Ziona’s journey from Iran to Israel in 1948, Einat discusses the antisemitism she’s dealt with online and on the streets in the past year.

The Boiling Point: Confronting Iran's Escalating Threat
August 13 2024
With the Islamic Republic of Iran on the brink of developing nuclear weapons and dragging the entire region toward a full-scale war, the US, Europe, and their allies need an urgent policy review to confront the regime’s clear and present danger to global security. It is time to move beyond diplomacy and defense, and take concrete actions to thwart Iranian aggression. The US must rally a global coalition to forcefully counter Iran’s conventional, terror, and nuclear threats.

Facing the Houthi Threat: Time to Stop Playing Defense
August 1 2024
Given Iran’s role in the Houthi attacks against Israel and international shipping in the Red Sea, the time has come to look for opportunities to take more aggressive action against Iranian weapon smuggling, training bases, intelligence platforms, and Houthi leadership. Playing defense is no longer enough to curtail the growing Houthi threat.

Thirty Years Later, Justice for Jews and AMIA Bombing Victims in Argentina Remains Elusive

For Argentina's Jews, Justice Continues to be Delayed and Denied
July 11 2024
Justice delayed is justice denied. And for 30 years, the Jewish community in Argentina has been waiting for justice. At 9:53 a.m. on July 18, 1994, a suicide bomber drove an explosives-laden truck into the AMIA building — the hub for the Jewish community in Buenos Aires — killing 85 people and injuring more than 300.

This week President Biden re-designated Yemen’s Houthis as a global terrorist group amid its increasing attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea. Meanwhile, in Lebanon, the Hezbollah terror group continues to threaten Israel's northern border, and the Israel-Hamas war continues as Hamas still holds more than 100 Israeli hostages taken on 10/7.

Global leaders, Hold Iran Accountable For Deadly Attack On Argentina’s Jewish Community
September 27 2023
The attack against AMIA struck not only a building, but the heart and soul of Argentina and its Jewish community — the sixth largest in the world and the largest in Latin America. This was a blatant attack on our shared values of peace, inclusion and coexistence. In defending these values, we must come together as a global community to bring these murderers and their benefactors to justice.
