In September 2025, the California State Legislature unanimously passed Assembly Bill (AB) 715. Governor Gavin Newsom signed the bill into law on October 7, 2025. AB 715 takes effect on January 1, 2026.

The law acknowledges that Jewish and Israeli-American students across California face a widespread surge in antisemitic discrimination, harassment, and bullying. In some cases, this severe conduct places students at risk and limits their ability to learn.

American Jewish Committee (AJC), the American Council on Education (ACE), Hillel International, and the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB), groups representing the collegiate and broader Jewish communities and higher education leaders, are deeply alarmed by inflammatory social media posts and rhetoric targeting trustees. The language was employed by the National Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) as part of its “Week of Rage” campaign, which coincided with the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023 Hamas terror attack.

When I awoke on the third day of my internship with American Jewish Committee (AJC), my excitement for my first hybrid workday came to an abrupt halt when I read the news that Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky were murdered after leaving an AJC ACCESS event.
