AJC Congratulates Mayor-elect Raman and Seeks Constructive Dialogue

American Jewish Committee (AJC) congratulates Councilmember Nithya Raman on her election as the next Mayor of Los Angeles. We also thank Mayor Karen Bass for her leadership and service.

At a time of rising antisemitism and caustic rhetoric directed at our community, Jewish Angelenos have legitimate concerns about safety, belonging, and representation in public discourse. Some of Mayor-elect Raman’s past comments heightened those apprehensions. We hope her administration will set a different tone and address these legitimate reservations.

“This is a pivotal moment for the Jewish community of Los Angeles and all Angelenos,” said Kimberley Plotnik, Regional Director of AJC Los Angeles. “We look forward to engaging in open and constructive dialogue with the new mayor, ensuring that perspectives and priorities of the Jewish community are understood and considered. AJC is ready to work together to confront antisemitism and other forms of hate to strengthen the fabric of our diverse city and advance a Los Angeles where all communities can thrive.”
