Christian-Jewish Relations
Strengthening relations with our Christian neighbors
Since AJC’s inception more than 110 years ago, we have promoted religious pluralism and compassion. AJC played a pivotal role in transforming 2,000 years of Christian antipathy to Judaism through our advocacy with the Catholic Church in the 1960s before, during, and after the Second Vatican Council. The Council produced Nostra Aetate (In Our Time), the ground-breaking document that revolutionized Catholic-Jewish relations and set the stage for Protestant and Orthodox Christian churches to reconsider their attitudes about Judaism.
Today, we connect Jews and Christians locally, nationally, and globally to enhance mutual understanding and support Israel’s right to exist in peace and security. From the halls of the Vatican, to the offices of national and international Christian denominational leaders, to the aisles of local churches, AJC is a trusted, effective, and respected representative of the Jewish people.
