AJC has long supported Ukraine, being the first Jewish organization outside Ukraine to call for U.S. recognition of its independence in 1991 and advocating for democratic development and security over decades.
1. Condemnation of Russian Aggression
AJC has consistently condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as illegal, brutal aggression and a flagrant violation of international law, emphasizing that Ukraine bears no responsibility for Russia’s war.
2. Support for Ukrainian Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity
AJC reaffirms unwavering solidarity with the Ukrainian people, supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and democratic future. Any diplomatic or political framework must reject territorial concessions to Russia and uphold internationally recognized borders.
3. Support for International Action and Accountability
The U.S. and European governments must take collective and individual action to support Ukraine, including:
Defense Assistance: Provide robust military and security support to deter further aggression and protect civilians.
Sanctions: Maintain strong sanctions against Russia and countries assisting its war effort (e.g., Iran) to weaken the Russian war machine and hold perpetrators accountable.
NATO Integration: Support Ukraine’s path toward NATO membership, signaling unity against aggression and strengthening deterrence.
The Russian invasion and occupation has sparked a humanitarian crisis. International NGOs, the OSCE, and civil society report that children in occupied areas face abduction, Russification, indoctrination, and militarization. The U.S. and those of likemind must:
Oppose Russia’s territorial claims;
Prioritize identification, protection, and return of abducted children;
Support accountability mechanisms addressing forced transfer and indoctrination.
