Marc D. Jaffe has been honored with American Jewish Committee’s (AJC) Judge Learned Hand Award, AJC’s highest honor for members of the legal profession.
Jaffe is the managing partner for the New York office at Latham & Watkins, one of the nation’s leading law firms.
The award is named after Learned Hand, a famed judge who served on federal courts in New York for 52 years.
AJC, the global advocacy organization for the Jewish people, was founded in 1906 by many prominent lawyers and jurists. It presented the award to Jaffe on Wednesday during a reception at the Pierre Hotel.
"It is a profound honor to receive this recognition from AJC, an organization I hold in the highest esteem,” Jaffe said. “I’m privileged and deeply humbled to accept this award, and I am committed to continuing to inspire positive change, foster social justice, and promote equity in New York and beyond.”
Jaffe represents leading companies, investment banking firms, and investors in both public and private equity and debt offerings and corporate matters. He handles high-profile matters on behalf of prominent US and foreign companies, investment banks, private equity and venture capital funds.
Jaffe also maintains an active Israel practice, advising emerging and established Israel-based issuers on corporate finance transactions.
“In addition to being an outstanding lawyer and a mensch, Marc’s remarkable record of supporting impactful civic, educational and philanthropic projects here and in Israel sets an example for others to follow,” AJC CEO Ted Deutch said.
Other Latham senior leaders on hand to honor Jaffe included Richard Trobman, chair and managing partner; LeeAnn Black, chief operating officer, Michael Haas, global real estate practice co-chair, and Jonathan Lippmann, the former chief judge in New York, who serves as of counsel.
“I've known Marc for over 30 years and have seen firsthand how his leadership, dedication, and mentorship have positively impacted so many,” Trobman said. “We are incredibly proud that AJC has recognized him for embodying excellence in the law, integrity, and the values of giving back that we cherish at Latham. Beyond his impressive legal career, Marc has made a tremendous impact through his commitment to philanthropy, community service, and the championing of diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
