AJC National Leadership Development Programs
American Jewish Committee (AJC) is committed to supporting its lay leadership. Throughout the year, AJC’s national leadership development programs educate, empower, and offer the opportunity for leaders to hone skills and expand their AJC networks. Through these programs, AJC leaders prepare to take on national leadership roles as they help advance the AJC mission. Alumni of these programs join a cadre of thousands of leaders, who make AJC what it is today.
SHOLOM D. COMAY LEADERSHIP FELLOWSHIP
The Comay Fellowship is the most immersive leadership program. Named for the late Sholom D. Comay, past national AJC president, the fellowship launched in 1994 as a tribute to Comay’s own youthful rise to leadership and to the legacy he left of exceptional accomplishment and human decency. Carrying on this tradition, over the course of a year, fellows have the opportunity to expand their AJC networks and gain a deeper understanding of AJC and what it means to be a global advocate for the Jewish people today and into the future.
HILDA KATZ BLAUSTEIN LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
The Hilda Katz Blaustein Leadership Institute, or HKB, is a three-day seminar that provides AJC leaders with training and education in AJC’s core advocacy issues, unique approach, and global architecture. Named for the late Hilda Katz Blaustein, the wife of past AJC national president and legendary leader in Israel-Diaspora relations, Jacob Blaustein, since 1977 the institute celebrates her spirit as a major force in American Jewish life.
AJC-ADENAUER LEADERSHIP EXCHANGE PROGRAM TO GERMANY
Established in 1980, the AJC-Adenauer Leadership Exchange Program recognizes AJC’s position as the first global Jewish organization to engage with Germany after WWII. Each year, the program takes a small cohort of leaders to Germany for a week of learning about modern-day Germany and engaging in the issues of the trilateral U.S.-Israel-Germany relationship, transatlantic affairs, and German-Jewish relations. This program is the longest running collaborative project between a German political foundation and an American Jewish organization.
To be considered for the AJC-Adenauer Leadership Exchange Program to Germany, leaders must be supporting AJC at the National Leadership Council level ($10,000+). To be considered for the Comay Fellowship and HKB, leaders must be supporting AJC at the Marshall Society Emissaries level ($5,000+) and above (or $2,500 in smaller regions where that is the Board minimum). Leaders are chosen through a highly selective nomination process, and participation is by invitation only.
