Ambassador Marcy Grossman is a former Canadian Ambassador and a distinguished diplomat with more than three decades of experience at the intersection of diplomacy, geopolitics, and economic engagement across the Middle East and North America.
She served as Canada’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates from 2019 to 2022, during a period of historic transformation in the Middle East, including the signing of the Abraham Accords. In this role, she led Canada’s engagement with the UAE, deepening bilateral relations and advancing cooperation across political, economic, security, and regional priorities. Prior to becoming Ambassador, she served as Canada’s Consul General in Dubai and helped establish Canada’s presence at Expo 2020 Dubai.
Leading AJC Abu Dhabi represents the culmination of a career devoted to bridge-building and international engagement, bringing together her deep connection to the Middle East, longstanding commitment to dialogue across cultures and faiths, and dedication to Israel and the Jewish people.
Having witnessed firsthand the possibilities created by the Abraham Accords, she is passionate about advancing Arab-Israeli understanding, strengthening relationships between Israel and its neighbors, and helping translate the promise of regional integration into enduring peace and prosperity.
Her diplomatic career was forged in the United States, where she developed deep expertise in the Canada-U.S. relationship. Over 15 years, she served as Canada’s Head of Mission in Miami and Denver, with senior diplomatic assignments in Dallas and Los Angeles. She later returned to the United States as acting Head of Mission in Seattle and Chicago. Her work spanned political and economic diplomacy, trade and investment, security and public affairs, giving her a nuanced understanding of the United States and its institutions.
A recognized leader within Canada’s diplomatic service, she has trained and mentored Canadian ambassadors and senior diplomats preparing to represent Canada abroad. Throughout her career, she has also championed inclusive diplomacy and the role of women in leadership and peacebuilding.
Economic diplomacy has also been a defining element of her career. She helped create and launch Invest in Canada, Canada’s federal foreign investment agency, and led initiatives that resulted in multimillion-dollar investments in Canada, including by Dell and Sony Imageworks.
She began her public service career at Correctional Service Canada before going on to hold senior positions across several federal government departments. She holds a Master’s degree in Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with Highest Honours from Carleton University. She is fluent in English and French and has studied Spanish, Hebrew, and Arabic.
