AJC Deputy Director, William Petschek Contemporary Jewish Life and Jewish Peoplehood Initiatives
Dr. Alexandra Herzog serves as AJC’s National Deputy Director of the William Petschek Contemporary Jewish Life department where she oversees Jewish communal engagement, research, and education, Jewish peoplehood initiatives, and Israel-Diaspora relations. Previously, she worked as the Assistant Director of AJC New England, where she spearheaded legislative advocacy for the New England region as well as intergroup/interfaith outreach.
Dr. Herzog has a deep love for education and is an experienced educator who has taught in the United States as well as in Europe at the middle school, high school, and university levels. She holds a PhD in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies from Brandeis University. Dr. Herzog grew up in Switzerland where she also obtained undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Geneva, Switzerland.
Before joining AJC, Dr. Herzog was a professor at Boston University, teaching in the Core Curriculum program and the Elie Wiesel Center for Jewish Studies. She frequently writes and lectures in both America and in Europe about American and European Jewish communities, Jewish history, identity and culture, Israel, antisemitism, Jewish advocacy, and the representation of Jews in popular culture.
