Director, William Petschek Global Jewish Communities Department
Dr. Alexandra Herzog serves as AJC’s Director, William Petschek Global Jewish Communities Department, leading the organization’s strategy to engage Jewish communities worldwide, strengthen Israel-Diaspora relations, and advance initiatives that counter antisemitism and promote Jewish identity, peoplehood, and resilience.
Prior to this role, Dr. Herzog was the Deputy Director of the William Petschek Contemporary Jewish Life department, where she oversaw Jewish communal engagement, research, education, and initiatives related to Jewish peoplehood.
An experienced educator with a global perspective, Dr. Herzog is deeply passionate about strengthening the Jewish people. She currently serves as one of the 150 Council Members in President Herzog’s initiative “Voice of the People,” with a focus on the relationship between world Jewry and Israel. Dr. Herzog has taught across various levels, including middle school, high school, and university, both in the United States and in Europe. She holds a PhD in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies from Brandeis University and completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, where she grew up.
Before joining AJC, Dr. Herzog was a professor at Boston University, teaching in the Core Curriculum program and the Elie Wiesel Center for Jewish Studies. She frequently writes and lectures worldwide, educating Jews and non-Jews about Jewish identity, culture, and history, connection to Israel, Jewish peoplehood and advocacy, antisemitism, and the representation of Jews in popular culture.
