Independent schools are not just centers of education but also vital hubs for innovation and community building. In addition to ensuring the safety and well-being of Jewish students, faculty, and staff, they have a unique and pivotal role to play in confronting antisemitism and educating students and community members about the Jewish community.
Addressing the issue of antisemitism must begin in our children’s schools. To that end, American Jewish Committee (AJC) has developed a concise action plan that outlines immediate, near-term, and long-term actions to enhance the environment within independent schools. Our strategy is designed to align seamlessly with the U.S. National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism, which presents a comprehensive set of actions to counter antisemitism and uphold the integrity of our shared institutions, including primary and secondary schools. AJC has also designed a Guide for Administrators of Independent Schools to assist them in implementing the National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism and An Action Plan for University Students. AJC's team of experts is available to collaborate with independent school administrators in cultivating an environment that is resilient against the rising tide of antisemitism. Together, we can make a significant impact in creating a safer and more inclusive environment for all students.
By implementing these recommendations, independent schools can take significant steps toward countering antisemitism, promoting understanding, and fostering a more inclusive and respectful educational environment. We look forward to working alongside you in this crucial endeavor.
