It was an evening filled with warmth, laughter, respect, and gratitude. Rev Otis Moss, Jr, the first recipient of this award, gave an inspirational invocation, Jeremy Sosin, AJC Cleveland president spoke about AJC’s vital work and our times, Tom Adler reminded us of his father’s legacy and hopes for our community, Randy McShepard and Marsha Mockabee introduced our most deserving honoree, who then graciously accepted the award. In accepting the award, Darrell shared that he lives his life building a “community of purpose,” which is highlighted in “shared goals and mission” working towards a “common purpose of affecting change, fighting against evil, standing together for social change, equality, and promoting humanity for all mankind.” He praised the work of AJC Cleveland, noting that it “has been instrumental to combating antisemitism, racism, and the extremism that has captivated our country and sadly become accepted by many as the norm and not the exception.” He powerfully added, “we flourish when democratic values prevail and when light overcomes darkness.”
