Thank you to Stuart for his friendship, tutelage and for not changing his phone number!
The fight for democracy and human rights at home and abroad is not just a bullet point in a mission statement, it is now a necessity.
AJC is a staunchly non-partisan organization. We are not Republicans or Democrats but are Americans and Jews who must confront antisemitism at home and abroad, uphold democratic values at home and stand up for Israel, its right to exist and to live in peace with its neighbors. We applaud actions that support these causes and condemn those that thwart the rights of freedom for all.
Today we cannot be silent. We need to stand up for Jewish values and the ethics of our religion.
My goal as your President is to promote a more cohesive and compassionate community both within the Jewish community and with other communities in Dallas. For that I need your help.
Yes, we need your financial support to provide the many programs we offer locally, nationally and internationally to families and students from kindergarten to college that are experiencing antisemitism.
But I need your talent and time to help create meaningful ways to educate all people about the importance of the advocacy work that American Jewish Committee does today and has done globally and locally for over 110 years.
AJC has cultivated relationships with world heads of state, business and community leaders to be ready to act when issues of antisemitism, danger to Israel and human rights violations arise. Look no further than today’s news about our work with colleges and universities throughout the US.
Many in our own community don’t know that AJC exists and certainly don’t know the scope of what we do. I need you to help me spread the word about AJC’s impact and it is my hope that you will help me create engaging programs to support our community’s intra-religious and inter-religious bonds. Tikkun Olam begins here at home.
I am here to listen and help when I can. We can have different points of view and still agree that supporting the Jewish people, the future of Israel and human decency are a part of our Jewish heritage and always a necessity.
Abraham Joshua Heschel said, “The opposite of good is not evil, the opposite of good is indifference.” We must continue to remind ourselves that in a free society all are involved in what some are doing.
Please join me in this important work.
