Jay Haberman is Vice President, Strategic Philanthropy & Major Gifts at the American Jewish Committee (AJC), a role created as part of AJC’s five-year strategic plan to strengthen and expand the institution’s major gifts culture, deepen engagement of its Board of Trustees, and cultivate new transformational philanthropic partnerships in support of AJC’s global advocacy mission.
A nationally respected development executive with more than 25 years of experience, Jay leads strategy for engaging philanthropic families, foundations, and key stakeholders. His work emphasizes long-term relationship building, multigenerational engagement, and guiding donors toward meaningful leadership roles that advance AJC’s vision. Jay has a longstanding commitment to strengthening the U.S.–Israel relationship and brings extensive experience in grass-tops advocacy, values-driven stewardship, and building a next-generation pipeline of philanthropic leaders dedicated to strengthening and unifying Jewish peoplehood worldwide.
Prior to joining AJC, Jay served in successive senior leadership roles for more than two decades at AIPAC, including founding the AIPAC Real Estate Division and leading its multigenerational philanthropy initiatives. He later served as Chief Development Officer of ELNET-US, where he helped advance the organization’s growth strategy, strengthen board engagement, and bolster Israel’s relationships across Europe.
Jay is a Certified Advisor in Multigenerational Philanthropy (21/64) and lives in Teaneck, New Jersey, with his wife and three children.
