Attack on Israel: Employee Letter to Workplace Management Team
Template communication for employees to send to the management team of their companies requesting them to make public statements in support of Israel and the Jewish people, and promote a supportive work environment.
Dear [COMPANY NAME] Senior Management Team,
The world is watching as the news of the attacks by Hamas in Israel and escalating war continues. As a Jewish American and employee of [COMPANY NAME], I can't help but feel deeply shaken and frightened by the conflict in the region. It's a situation that hits very close to home for me, and I'm sure it does for many of us here. Our hearts go out to all the innocent lives lost in these tragic events.
Some of us have family and friends in the region. In this moment of need and despair, we want to know that [name of the company] is dedicated to sustaining a culture of care and empathy for all.
[For companies that have made a public statement, please include]: I remain deeply grateful for the statement made by [COMPANY NAME/CEO] on X date. I hope that statement can also serve to inspire a supportive work environment for Jewish employees who are concerned not only about the war in Israel but about spiking antisemitism across the globe. I urge you to work to create a safe space for employees to gather and get the support they need. You may wish to consider, if appropriate, allowing for time off. The promotion of employee resource groups for Jewish staff would undoubtedly be welcome. These groups can also serve as sounding boards in the formulation of internal or external statements should the need arise.
[For companies that have NOT made a public statement, please include]: I humbly ask [COMPANY NAME] to express its solidarity with Israel and the Jewish people by using this sample communication drafted by American Jewish Committee (AJC). Additionally, I hope that [COMPANY NAME] will work to promote a supportive work environment for Jewish employees who are concerned not only about the war in Israel but about spiking antisemitism across the globe. I urge you to work to create a safe space for employees to gather and get the support they need. You may wish to consider, if appropriate, allowing for time off. If you would like more resources regarding what is taking place in Israel, and the effect on Jewish communities around the world, you can find them here.
Unfortunately, increased antisemitism follows historical patterns: during Jewish holidays, election cycles, and increased violence in the Middle East. Given the horrific events of October 7, 2023 and Israel’s necessary response, we can anticipate a spike in antisemitism both online and in real-life. This resource on how to prevent antisemitism in corporations and the workplace may be helpful as you work to ensure the safety and well-being of Jewish (and all) employees.
I understand that this is an incredibly challenging situation for our fellow colleagues, many of whom are also experiencing fear and uncertainty. Some may have family and friends directly affected by the situation. I know that [COMPANY NAME] is committed to supporting our colleagues during these difficult times. I would like to recommend that our HR department offer AJC as a resource. You can reach out to them via email at [email protected] to request additional information and/or trainings and listening sessions.
Let us continue to support one another through these challenging times and work together to promote a world of understanding and peace.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
