America’s Table returns: AJC Houston to host annual community breakfast on Nov. 13
Published in the Jewish Herald-Voice.
On Thursday, Nov. 13, at 8 a.m., the American Jewish Committee will host America’s Table, a powerful and uplifting gathering of civic, business and faith leaders. The community is invited to celebrate the rich cultural fabric that makes Houston truly exceptional.
This annual Community of Conscience event is designed to promote unity through storytelling. The program will feature three personal narratives that highlight journeys of resilience, identity and shared humanity. Their stories will challenge the audience to reflect, engage and build stronger community bonds.
This year’s storytellers include Yona Starosta, a multinational Jewish attorney born to Jewish refugees of the former Soviet Union; T. Dorina Papageorgiou, Ph.D., M.H.Sc., FAAN, a Greek-American professor and neuroscientist; and Officer G. Lual, a former Lost Boy of Sudan, now a proud officer with the Houston Police Department.
Veteran journalist Khambrel Marshall returns again as emcee, guiding the morning with warmth and wisdom.
Program committee members include Dorit Aaron, Barbara Winthrop, Susan Schneider, Irene Weingarten, Linda Toyota and Conchita Reyes. Their unwavering commitment to inclusion and civic engagement plays a vital role in the ongoing success of the unique program.
“America’s Table is more than an event; it’s a call to action,” said Rachel Schneider, AJC Houston regional director. “Attending affirms a commitment to the values of pluralism and mutual respect. It is a moment to stand alongside others who believe in the power of dialogue and connection.”
Ticket sales support AJC’s year-round work through its Community of Conscience initiative, which fosters understanding and collaboration across lines of faith, race and identity. Together, participants strengthen the foundation of a more unified and inclusive Houston.
Tickets may be purchased at Tickets and donations at donate.ajc.org/americastable or email houston@ajc.org; seating is limited. Event location will be provided upon confirmed registration.
