Young Leadership Associate (One-Year Project Position)

The Young Leadership Associate is a part of AJC’s Alexander Young Leadership department and will work in close coordination with the JCRC-AJC of Metropolitan Detroit, a partnership organization. This role engages JCRC-AJC activists—high school and college students—who will shape the future of global Jewish advocacy. Working with national team members and JCRC-AJC of Detroit, this position will grow opportunities for young leaders and professionally locally and nationally.
This position will report to AJC’s Associate Director of Development, Alexander Young Leadership Department and will also receive guidance from the Director of JCRC-AJC of Metropolitan Detroit.

Position Responsibilities:
- Manage, facilitate, and implement AJC’s Leaders for Tomorrow (LFT) program in Detroit.
- Recruit students for annual LFT cohorts and ensure a robust group of student participants.
- Create meaningful programs for LFT alumni in the Detroit area.
- Developing and expanding joint advocacy and diplomatic opportunities with community partners from other religious, racial, and ethnic backgrounds and with elected officials.
- Establishing and maintaining close ties with Michigan-based colleges and universities—including to Hillel staff and students—in support of AJC’s Campus Affairs work.
- Recruiting Campus and LFT Leaders to attend the AJC Global Forum.
- Finding meaningful local advocacy opportunities for Leaders for Tomorrow (LFT) high school students and Leaders for Tomorrow alumni.
- Join LFT students for AJC’s annual LFT Advocacy Day and other relevant national programs for LFT students.
- Represent AJC young leadership interests in Detroit.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and 1-2 years of work experience
- Self-starter who collaborates seamlessly with colleagues both inside and outside AJC
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills
- Alignment with AJC’s mission and diplomatic style, with knowledge and passion for the organization’s key issues (including Israel, world Jewry, human rights, international relations, foreign policy, and democratic institutions)
- Ability to multi-task and work on many projects simultaneously
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with staff and lay leadership
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, make difficult decisions and follow through on agreed upon initiatives
- An entrepreneurial mindset; able to identify and pursue opportunities
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends, and to travel occasionally
- Fluency in social media
