The Case for Designating All of Hezbollah a Terrorist Organization

In advance of the opening of the 2019 UN General Assembly, AJC renewed its call for the international community, and especially the EU, to label the entirety of Hezbollah a terrorist organization. The effort included the release of a series of materials, linked to below, that highlight the need and rationale for the designation.

AJC, together with the Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT) produced a fact-based analysis that makes the case for full designation. The report, Setting the Record Straight on Hezbollah, powerfully demonstrating how full designation strengthens Lebanon, protects the West, and promotes stability across the Middle East.

To take action and ask your member of Congress to urge the EU to label all of Hezbollah a terrorist organization, go to AJC.org/HezbollahAction.

Diplomatic and Political Ties with Lebanon - Factsheet 4
Unlike the EU's approach to the ETA and IRA, full designation will not close off diplomatic and political engagement with Lebanon. The United States, the Netherlands, and Canada all designated Hezbollah in its entirety as a terrorist organization while simultaneously supporting the strengthening of government institutions, maintaining trade relations, and providing humanitarian aid for the refugee problem in Lebanon.

Top Ten Takeaways from AJC/ICT's Hezbollah Report
September 20, 2019
For years, the U.S., Canada, the Netherlands, and other countries have called all of Hezbollah what it really is: a terrorist organization. The group’s self-portrayal as a legitimate Lebanese political party notwithstanding, no amount of spin or reorganization can overshadow Hezbollah’s destructive and lethal organized crime operation around the world.
