The Senior Accountant will contribute to overall goals of organization by providing timely and accurate financial information and outstanding customer service. He/she will support responsibilities of the Controller and Assistant Controller in maintaining excellent financial reporting, tightly managed and controlled costs, and a balanced operating budget.
The Senior Accountant will handle the preparation of monthly closing accounts and financial analyses for external reporting purposes. He/she will prepare reports for the annual business planning and budgeting process as well as budget to actual reports to internal stakeholders throughout the year. He/she will be cross-trained on several functions within the Finance Department. He/she will report to the Assistant Controller; and will have a close working relationship with the Assistant Controller and selected Department Heads

Position Responsibilities:
Monthly Financial Closing
- Assist the Assistant Controller and Controller in the monthly closing of the AJC books by maintaining key financial schedules (i.e. balance sheet account reconciliations)
- Record journal entries in NetSuite as needed
Budgeting and Reporting
- Work with the Assistant Controller in preparing selected AJC programmatic and support departments
- Provide monthly financial reports, including variance analysis and have ongoing dialog with department heads, serving as a financial partner
- Work with the department heads to understand financial results in order to tightly control costs and identify cost savings opportunities
- Assist in preparation of annual departmental budgets
Other Functions:
- Be cross-trained to serve as an official backup in the areas of gift processing and payroll
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and CPA preferred
- A minimum of seven years of finance or accounting experience (non-profit industry and auditing background encouraged)
- Strong technical accounting skills with a working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Reporting (audited financial statements and management reporting)
- Strong analytical and project management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to creatively and proactively solve problems

The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $70,000.
