President Trump’s declaration Wednesday that the United States formally recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital city is an acknowledgement of historical fact and current reality.
There are many reasons for caution in dealing with the status of Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, to which the Palestinians also lay claims. However, there are also reasons that the U.S. government took a logical step stating the obvious, recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
While the European Union’s soft power can’t stop conflicts, it could help prevent the outbreak of a new one—between Israel and Iran, aided by its proxy Hezbollah.
