Nostra Aetate marked an unprecedented turnaround in interreligious relations, and that Jews are not collectively responsible for the death of Jesus. Jews are not to be portrayed as accursed. Antisemitism is unequivocally forbidden.
AJC’s current privileged position as an esteemed partner in dialogue with the Catholic Church is the result of seven decades of dedicated diplomatic work by visionary AJC leaders.
Each year, AJC co-sponsors Promoting Tolerance: Advancing Democracy, Building Civil Society, aimed at promoting human rights, civil rights, and an open society. Starting in 2018, the program will be known as Advancing Democracy: Building Civil Society, Celebrating Diversity. It is run jointly by AJC and the German-based Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF).
Through our Paris office, AJC is actively engaging political, civil society, cultural, and religious leaders to grapple with the rise of Islamist radicalism, as well as the extreme right-wing reaction it has triggered in France and several other European countries.
The rise of antisemitism and the threat it poses to France are of great concern to the country’s leadership. AJC Paris encourages government officials to publicly denounce manifestations of antisemitism. And we hold them accountable for protecting local Jewish communities.
