After 23 months of the crisis triggered by Hamas on October 7, the survival of the Abraham Accords, thanks to the endurance of the strategic decisions made in 2020 by the UAE, Bahrain, and Morocco – is cause for celebration as the region marks the agreements’ fifth anniversary. It is also a summons to all stakeholders to take the next steps to realize the promises made at the White House on that September afternoon. It is time to make history again.

Germany could do much more to impose financial pressure on Hamas since it is a hub for the terror group’s fundraising and money-laundering operations. At the same time, Berlin must continue to support Israel as it works to free all the hostages and defeat Hamas, instead of weakening the one country in the region capable of doing so.

President Trump is making this visit at a time that requires Israelis and Arabs to be more interdependent in ways not previously imaginable. So while the challenges in the Middle East are clear, so too are the unprecedented opportunities. President Trump has a rare opportunity to once again make history in this too-long-troubled region.

The Abraham Accords were the most positive development in the Middle East in almost three decades, tripling the number of Arab states moving to recognize Israel. Building on that historic achievement in a time when trust has worn thin will be a heavy lift. But with American prestige and power, the glaringly obvious benefits of Arab-Israeli integration and interdependence, and President Trump’s unique stature in the region, it is a goal worth pursuing.

This incident in Amsterdam, following a year of rising antisemitic incidents across Europe, should have been a loud and clear wake-up call for European leaders. Yet the response has been woefully inadequate. As was the case in the immediate days following October 7, 2023, when antisemitic crimes escalated dramatically, much of the reaction has been confined to mere condemnations.
