AJC praised the New York Police Department for the apprehension of an individual who brutally assaulted Menachem Moskowitz on April 21. It was the second attack on a Jew in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn this month.

Moskowtiz was beaten severely and choked while walking home from Shabbat services. The suspect, James Vincent, was charged with assault, strangulation and unlawful possession of marijuana in the assault that had been investigated by the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Unit.

“This attack was clearly an act of antisemitic violence. We encourage law enforcement to consider adding hate crimes to the charges,” said Michael Schmidt, Director of AJC’s New York Regional Office.

Schmidt praised the NYPD’S dedication to the safety and security of New York’s Jewish community, and determination to bring to justice those responsible for attacks on Jews or Jewish institutions in the city.

Police are continuing to investigate an attack earlier this month on a Jewish man, who was assaulted while walking along the Eastern Parkway near the headquarters of the international Chabad movement.
