American Jewish Committee (AJC) mourns the passing of former Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee  Eliot Engel, a steadfast champion of democratic values, U.S. global leadership, and the U.S.-Israel relationship.  A close partner to AJC, Engel worked to confront antisemitism, strengthen democratic alliances, and push back against shared threats to the United States and its partners.

American Jewish Committee (AJC) has consistently and unequivocally condemned violent attacks targeting both Israelis and Palestinians that have plagued the West Bank for far too long. These acts are intended to terrorize, destabilize communities, and foreclose the possibility of a more secure future for both peoples. They are morally indefensible and must be treated with equal seriousness.

Governor Gavin Newsom’s recent comments about Israel were confusing and problematic.

The Kotel and its surrounding prayer spaces belong to the entirety of the Jewish people.

On this solemn fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, American Jewish Committee (AJC) and the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) stand united with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in remembrance, resolve, and moral clarity, and continue to call for sustained international support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Last week, in partnership with Creative Community for Peace (CCFP), American Jewish Committee (AJC) Project Interchange hosted a delegation of entertainment industry leaders in Israel, providing these executives the opportunity to experience Israel and meet with Israelis firsthand.

With hostages still being held by Hamas in Gaza, American Jewish Committee (AJC) this weekend unveiled a new public call to bring them home in New York’s iconic Times Square, at the northeast corner of Broadway and West 43rd. The video billboard, featuring the remaining hostages reminds the world that more than two years since Hamas’s October 7, 2023 massacre, the terror group is still holding hostages in Gaza in defiance of the terms agreed to as part of the first phase of President Trump’s 20-point peace plan.

American Jewish Committee (AJC) welcomes the agreement reached by Israel and Hamas, brokered by the United States, to begin the first phase of President Trump’s 20-point peace plan.

We thank the Trump Administration for its sustained leadership in its effort to bring an end to this war that preserves Israel's security and sees the return of all remaining hostages, and provides a path to long-term durable peace that sees a prosperous future for both Israelis and Palestinians.

AJC welcomes Israel's acceptance of the U.S. plan, as well as the regional Arab and international support outlined by President Trump. The world should be united in ensuring this plan can succeed. It is now up to Hamas to put an end to this violent conflict it started on October 7, 2023.

American Jewish Committee (AJC), the global advocacy organization for the Jewish people, applauds the moral clarity of more than 1,200 film industry professionals who today joined with Creative Community for Peace (CCFP) in rejecting a recent pledge by their peers to boycott the Israeli film industry.

Just as the 2020 Accords did not materialize overnight, neither will their expansion. Even as we face unprecedented challenges in the region, there is reason for hope and a necessity for this work to continue. We must build on the foundation laid five years ago – for a new era of regional cooperation, greater stability, and the opportunity for a future defined by prosperity rather than perpetual conflict.

Belgium’s announcement of its intention to recognize a Palestinian state is, like similar pronouncements from other nations, counterproductive to the stated goal of achieving a two-state solution, even with Brussels making clear that such recognition is dependent upon the fulfillment of specific, well-defined conditions.

American Jewish Committee (AJC), the global advocacy organization for the Jewish people, strongly opposes the German government’s decision to impose a partial arms embargo on Israel and urges Berlin to reconsider.

Today’s announcement by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Minister of Foreign Affairs Penny Wong that Australia will recognize Palestinian statehood next month at the United Nations General Assembly is deeply disappointing and counterproductive.
