American Jewish Committee (AJC) today thanked Stanford University and the University of Michigan for showing moral clarity and leadership in the wake of Tuesday’s congressional hearing, “Holding Campus Leaders Accountable and Confronting Antisemitism,” during which university presidents from Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and University of Pennsylvania asserted that comments calling for the genocide of the Jewish people would not necessarily violate their institutions’ codes of conduct.

AJC Tells SCOTUS: Social Media Platforms Must Be Able to Combat Hate Speech

American Jewish Committee (AJC) today filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court defending the right of social media companies to exclude hateful speech from their platforms. The case, Moody v. NetChoice, involves challenges to Florida and Texas statutes which limited the right of social media platforms to exclude posts that violated their rules of service. The lower federal courts are divided on the constitutionality of such statutes.

110+ Ibero-American and U.S. Jewish Leaders Reaffirm Commitment to Fight Antisemitism, Support Israel in War Against Hamas

This week, more than 110 Ibero-American and U.S. Jewish leaders unanimously endorsed American Jewish Committee’s (AJC) Santiago Declaration, reaffirming their regional commitment to fight antisemitism, stand by Israel in its war against Hamas, support democratic values and human rights worldwide, and promote continued collaboration. The Strategic Forum for Leaders of Ibero-American Jewish Communities, convened December 3-5 by AJC's Arthur and Rochelle Belfer Institute for Latino and Latin American Affairs (BILLA) and hosted by the Jewish Community of Chile, brought together diplomats, political leaders, and representatives from civil society from 13 countries for discussions on current relations with Israel and rising global antisemitism, among other topics.

AJC’s Jacob Blaustein Institute, UN, Diplomatic Leaders Reaffirm Commitment to Genocide Convention on 75th Anniversary

American Jewish Committee’s (AJC) Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights (JBI) and the United Nations Special Adviser on Prevention of Genocide brought together senior diplomats this week to mark 75 years since the signing of the Genocide Convention, including representatives from Rwanda and Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the event, several of the diplomatic leaders called for greater political will to confront ongoing signs that communities that have previously experienced genocide continue to face hatred and violence, noting rising global antisemitism and anti-Muslim bigotry.

AJC Statement on University Presidents Testifying Before Congress

Tuesday’s congressional hearing was shocking and disappointing. After nearly six hours of testimony in which the university presidents from Harvard, MIT, and Penn made clear their schools’ commitments to free speech and academic excellence, they could not bring themselves to affirm that calling for the genocide of the Jewish people constitutes a violation of their institutions’ codes of conduct.

AJC, the only Jewish organization with an office in the United Arab Emirates, was also the only Jewish organization to sponsor a panel at the first-ever Faith Pavillion at a UN Climate Conference.

Following last month’s historic March for Israel that brought nearly 300,000 people to the National Mall, the nation’s most prominent American Jewish organizations have today joined forces to launch The 10/7 Project — a new centralized communications operation. The 10/7 Project is designed to promote continued U.S. bipartisan support for Israel by working to ensure more complete and accurate information about the Israel-Hamas war in real time for policymakers and the American public.

In response to the rising challenge of online antisemitism, American Jewish Committee (AJC), B’nai B’rith International, the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, UNESCO, and the World Jewish Congress came together to host an action-oriented online capacity building workshop. The session united over 50 transatlantic civil society leaders, online antisemitism experts, and leading figures driving policy responses to hateful narratives as well as fostering media and information literacy, to share best practices around countering online antisemitism from across Europe and North America.

American Jewish Committee’s (AJC) Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights (JBI) this week issued a new call to action: Global Leaders, Experts Must Reject Surging Antisemitism Worldwide and Affirm Jews’ Equal Rights. The appeal provides examples from 25 countries of incidents of antisemitic hate speech, discrimination, and physical attacks against Jews and Jewish sites that have occurred since Hamas’s October 7 attack against Israel.

American Jewish Committee (AJC) today welcomed the U.S. Senate’s unanimous passage of a bipartisan resolution condemning the Hamas terror attack on October 7 and demanding that Hamas release all hostages and allow for their safe return home. The resolution, introduced by Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Todd Young (R-IN), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Ben Cardin (D-MD), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), and Mitt Romney (R-UT), was adopted on day 33 of the hostages being held in Gaza.

AJC, Dozens of Jewish Organizations Call on Tech Companies to Do More To Combat Surge in Antisemitism

American Jewish Committee (AJC), the global advocacy organization for the Jewish people, was joined today by roughly 50 Jewish community organizations from around the world to urge tech and social media companies to take prompt and effective action to counter “the surge in online content celebrating the terrorist organization Hamas and the heinous murders and related attacks it committed against 1,400 civilians in Israel on and since October 7, 2023.”
