On Friday, August 5, the Israel Defense Forces launched Operation Breaking Dawn in response to days of threats from the Iranian-backed Palestinian Islamic Jihad that it would attack Israel. During this operation, several terror targets in the northern Gaza Strip were struck, where a top Palestinian Islamic Jihad commander, who was responsible for launching hundreds of rockets at Israel during the May 2021 Gaza conflict, was killed.
