The Director of Social Media is principally responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of AJC’s social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. This work will require availability outside normal work hours, including evenings and weekends, to respond to breaking developments and urgent requests from senior leadership.
The Director of Social Media will work closely with the Director of Media Communications to develop strategies to leverage social media platforms to advance AJC’s advocacy agenda, grow the organization’s social media footprint, achieve key content marketing goals, and further cement the organization’s position as a leading player in the online conversation on the issues affecting American Jewry and Israel.

Responsibilities include:
Social Media Management
Work closely with the Director of Media Communications to advise AJC leadership on the best uses and practices of social media to advance the organization’s work
Ensure a steady stream of posts on AJC’s global social media accounts that are consistent with AJC’s programmatic and advocacy priorities
Closely follow relevant news and trending social media topics and develop and communicate AJC’s response in a timely manner, in concert with the Assistant Director of Social Media (Rapid Response), organizational leadership, and other key stakeholders
Draft for and run the social media accounts for the CEO in close coordination with OCEO to align AJC and CEO messaging
Develop social media campaigns aimed at galvanizing support for AJC’s advocacy agenda
Plan and manage complex social media rollout plans for flagship events and reports, including AJC Global Forum and AJC’s Antisemitism Report
Initiate and manage live social coverage of signature events and programs
Oversee the cultivation of relationships with social media influencers to foster collaborative opportunities, facilitating brand partnerships and content collaborations aimed at enhancing brand visibility and engagement across diverse platforms
Track the activities of other organizations active in our space and regularly research new social media trends and technologies that might be applicable to AJC
Work closely with the Director of Media Communications and other senior stakeholders to respond to crisis situations
Work with the Assistant Director of Social Media (Advertising) to create actionable plans to both grow and maintain followers and convert followers into email constituents, activists, and donors
Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders
Ensure brand integrity through consistency in tone, voice, and terminology
Qualifications:
- Seven-plus years of work experience in the field of communications and social media;
- Bachelor's degree;
- Grasp of current events, particularly as they affect the Jewish people and Israel;
- Experience using social media analytics and listening tools;
- At least three years of experience managing employees;
- Capable of working independently as well as within a team environment;
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, especially across all levels of the organization, and pleasant demeanor;
- Flexible work style with the ability to work late and on weekends;
- Ability to meet tight deadlines;
- High level of professionalism with the ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information;
- Commitment to AJC’s global mission and familiarity with the Jewish community.
Other Responsibilities
The Director of Social Media will assume additional relevant responsibilities, as needed.

The salary range for this position is $115,000 to $125,000, depending on relevant experience.
