John M. Shapiro is President of AJC and managing director of Chieftain Capital Management, Inc., which he co-founded in 1984. Previously, he worked at Central National Corporation and Merrill Lynch & Co. John previously served as chairman of the AJC Board of Trustees and is a member of its Executive Council and national Board of Governors. In addition to his AJC involvement, John is chairman of Lawyers for Children, and immediate past vice chairman of The American Academy in Rome. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of The Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, and trustee of The Rockefeller University, The Washington Institute for Near East Policy, The Jewish Museum, and the Jerusalem Foundation. In addition, he is a member of the Committee on Drawings and Prints for The Museum of Modern Art. He previously served as president of the UJA-Federation of New York, and president of The Dalton School in New York City. John received a BA degree from Wesleyan University and an MBA from Columbia Business School. John is married with two children.
