This full time Houston-BILLA Assistant Director promotes synergies among the Latino, Ibero-American (Latin American, Spain and Portugal) and Jewish agendas in the Houston/Austin/Galveston area. This position supports and advances AJC’s and its Houston Region’s goals of reaching out and building coalitions and partnerships with local Latino leaders and organizations including Latino Jews, based on common agendas. He/She will also build bridges with representatives of the regional Ibero-American diplomatic corps and will advocate on priority issues for AJC. In conjunction with the region, he /she will identify, recruit and activate lay leaders and donors, including Latino Jews, passionate for and committed to advancing AJC’s inter-group work with Latinos, reaching out to diplomats to foster trilateral ties among the US-Ibero-America and Israel and helping ensure the well- being of Jewish communities in the region.

Major Functions:
- Diplomacy: Support the development of relations with Houston Ibero-American leaders, representatives of the diplomatic corps, NGO’s, Jewish leaders and other sectors that have an impact on AJC’s global agenda.
- Inter-group Relations: Work towards crafting common agendas between AJC and Latino leaders/institutions to advance AJC’s local, national and global priorities.
- Advocacy and Programming: Assist in the development and lead in the implementation of programs and advocacy campaigns that promote AJC’s national, hemispheric and global issues.
- Regional Outreach: Support and collaborate with professional staff in the Houston office in the implementation of Latino-Jewish related programs, outreach and follow-up action plans and assist them with their Ibero-American diplomatic work.
- Leadership and Donor Development: Identify, recruit and activate lay leaders and donors, including Latino Jews, passionate for and committed to advancing AJC’s inter-group work with Latinos, reaching out to diplomats to foster trilateral ties among the US-Ibero-America and Israel and helping ensure the well- being of Jewish communities in the region.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Ensure BILLA’s guidance in Houston in all things related to its mandate
- Lead in identifying, cultivating and activating Latino partners through the development and implementation of programs and initiatives that strengthen strategic partnerships between Latinos and Jews in Houston/Austin and Galveston
- Develop strong ties to representatives of the Ibero-American diplomatic corps at the regional level.
- Convene Latino Jews in the area to further AJC goals, to act as natural bridges between both communities and foment connections between the U.S., Israel and Ibero-America. Cultivate candidates both as AJC potential leaders and funders.
- Help identify and recruit potential Project Interchange Latino/Latin American candidates. Help find funding for regional seminars.
Personal Qualifications and Core Competencies:
- BA degree required. Masters preferred
- 5-7 years of relevant experience in Latin American and Latino affairs
- Fully bilingual (English/Spanish) Fluent in Hebrew and Portuguese a plus
- Good knowledge of the area and a network of contacts both in the Jewish and Latino communities locally
- Excellent public relations, written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish
- Excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills
- Ability to work collegially with national, departmental and regional staff, as well as lay leaders
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Extensive event planning experience, including implementing programs, logistics and communications.
- Excellent project management skills, ability to manage data and develop, implement and oversee budget.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work as part of a team of professionals and lay leaders.
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
- Passion for AJC’s mission.
- A demonstrated commitment to high ethical standard and values.
- Experience with social media and online platforms.
- Willingness to travel.
- Willingness to attend meetings and programs outside of standard working hours
- Ability to cultivate, develop and maintain relationships with board leadership and external stakeholders.
