AJC Los Angeles is one of 24 regional offices in the United States that advances AJC’s global advocacy mission to combat antisemitism, strengthen Israel’s place in the world, and promote pluralism and democratic values worldwide. The regional offices are on the frontlines in assuring the agency’s nationwide presence, attracting leaders and donors, driving and enhancing AJC’s influence with local, national, and international decision makers and stakeholders, developing and implementing advocacy initiatives at the state and local level, and establishing and nurturing diplomatic and community relationships.
The Assistant Director of AJC’s Los Angeles Regional Office plays a critical role in:
- Advocacy and community relations, including diplomatic and political outreach.
- Establishing and nurturing strategic relationships with ethnic and religious leaders and community partners to represent and advance AJC’s organizational priorities.
- Stewarding and inspiring lay leaders, prospects, and donors to ensure their maximum engagement with AJC including their time, expertise, financial resources, and connections including introductions to key civic, corporate, philanthropic stakeholders, and relevant decision-makers and leaders.
The Assistant Director does all this while adhering to AJC’s core values: Respect, Teamwork, Integrity, Excellence, and Accountability.
- Establish and maintain relationships with important AJC constituencies including political, governmental, diplomatic, media, ethnic and religious groups
- Execution of advocacy-related and educational partnership initiatives and programs
- Support for development related programs and events
- Communications including website, Facebook, and Monthly Update
- Coordinate special projects as needed
- Board engagement/leadership development including recruiting and activating new lay leaders, facilitating board and advocacy committee meetings.
- Bachelor’s degree; master’s degree preferred
- Three to five years of relevant experience
- Commitment to AJC’s global mission and familiarity with the Jewish community
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including writing, public speaking, editing, and proofreading
- Excellent interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy
- Well-developed organizational and time management skills
- Respect for and adherence to confidentiality
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Ability to solve problems creatively and practically
- Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with staff and lay leadership
- Entrepreneurial creativity, resourcefulness, and strong problem-solving skills
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications
