Mark Mellman, President and CEO of the Democratic Majority for Israel

Up for Grabs? Jews and the Democratic Party

Since Franklin Delano Roosevelt, American Jews have consistently supported the Democratic party's nominee for the highest office in the land. With both parties mounting formidable campaigns this year to reach and persuade Jewish voters, a Republican incumbent showcasing his historic support for Israel, the Democratic challenger pointing to his own long pro-Israel record, and elements within the Democrats’ ranks mobilizing to alter U.S. policy toward Israel, will 2020 be different? Mark Mellman – renowned political strategist, pollster, and President and CEO of the Democratic Majority for Israel – will assess political trends and tensions within both the Jewish community and the Democratic Party. President of Argentina Alberto Fernández

Remembrance and Justice: A Special Conversation with the President of Argentina, H.E. Alberto Fernández, on the 26th Anniversary of the AMIA attack

It has been twenty-six years since AMIA – the institutional heart of Argentine Jewry – was targeted in the single deadliest antisemitic incident since WWII, perpetrated by Iran's proxy, Hezbollah. Over the past several years, after a turbulent investigative journey, Argentina has laudably identified Iran as responsible for the terrorist attack, designated all of Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, and adopted the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism, with AJC’s active encouragement and support. Today, President Alberto Fernández is strengthening ties with the U.S., with Israel, and with the Jewish community in Argentina and around the world. Join AJC for this historic conversation with President Fernández as we pay tribute to the 85 victims of the AMIA attack and raise our collective voices against terrorism and antisemitism in all its forms.

Launch of the Transatlantic Declaration: The EU Must Ban Hezbollah

Join AJC’s Transatlantic Institute (TAI) and the Transatlantic Friends of Israel (TFI), for the launch of an unprecedented transatlantic declaration that unites lawmakers from North America, Israel, and Europe in their rejection of Europe’s fictional distinction between Hezbollah’s so-called military and political arms. On the eve of the anniversaries of Hezbollah’s deadly bomb attacks in Argentina (1994) and Bulgaria (2012), 220 legislators will come together to urge the EU to list Hezbollah in its entirety as a terrorist organization. AJC TAI Director Daniel Schwammenthal, TFI Chair MEP Lukas Mandl (Austria), and TFI Vice Chair MEP Dietmar Köster (Germany) will discuss this important declaration followed by a conversation with the Washington Institute’s Matthew Levitt highlighting his latest research on the Iranian proxy’s global terror activities.

June 23, 2020

A brilliant scholar, effective advocate, and the first woman to serve as U.S. Secretary of State (1997-2001), Madeleine Albright is a crucial voice for this fraught moment, as radical ideologies, social unraveling, and the COVID-19 pandemic threaten the hard-won post war global order. As UN Ambassador and Secretary of State in the Clinton administration, and as a private citizen since, Secretary Albright has been a champion of American global leadership and of our international alliances. Secretary Albright joins AJC to discuss the state of the world and where America must go from here.
