Energy

AJC urges the United States to set as a primary national goal a comprehensive energy policy aimed at substantial reduction in U.S. dependence on imported oil. This program should be pursued with urgency and serious commitment of resources comparable to that of the Manhattan Project and NASA's intensive program to land a man on the moon. The swift adoption of significant, tough and more consistent corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards must be part of an overall effort to efficiently use and conserve energy that will, together with increased production with stringent environmental safeguards and attention to alternative sources of energy, reduce our nation's dependence on foreign energy sources. The various sides on these issues must look beyond narrow interests in order to ensure that our nation is less susceptible in the future to international energy coercion.

See AJC's Statement on Energy and see AJC's Statement on Energy Legislation for more specific recommendations.

AJC's Fuel-Efficient Vehicle Bonus Program offers AJC employees a cash incentive to purchase fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly vehicles. News Release.

In addition, through op-ed articles, radio commentaries, and sponsorship of educational seminars, AJC plays a lead role in efforts to increase public awareness of the need to face our energy crisis and its foreign policy and national security implications.
