Engaging Jewish Venezuela
A Solidarity Dinner with Venezuelan Jewry
President of CAIV (Federation of Jewish Institutions of Venezuela) David Bittan and members of his team as well as BOG member and former CAIV President Fred Pressner
This dinner will provide an opportunity to meet with the President of CAIV (Federation of Jewish Institutions of Venezuela) David Bittan and members of his team as well as AJC Board of Governors member and former CAIV President Fred Pressner, to discuss the systematic assault on his community by state media through the use of anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist language. With upcoming presidential elections next October, the uncertainty surrounding President Chavez’s illness, and the rise of a young, charismatic leader of the opposition who happens to be of Jewish descent, the attacks have increased in the last months as an instrument to delegitimize this candidate and intimidate those who are supporting him. David and his colleagues will discuss potential scenarios and their impact on Jewish life in the country. CAIV is an AJC international partner and time and time again the agency has expressed its solidarity with the community as it faces ongoing challenges.

Full of anecdotal and previously untold stories, as well as a host of previously unpublished images, the book provides a unique, fresh perspective of Mandela's story and the anti-apartheid struggle as seen through the lives and recollections of Jewish South Africans who were a part of it.
