AJC stood in the forefront of non-governmental organizations welcoming
the United Nations Charter in 1945. AJC also played an active role in
drafting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the creation of the
United Nations Commission on Human Rights now called the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
Unfortunately, over the years the world body too often has failed to
live up to the principles enshrined in its Charter. The world’s worst
human rights violators sit on – and even chair – the UN Human Rights
Council. Israel has been singled out for censure and institutional bias
for decades.
