Marc Auslander was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Brooklyn and later in North Massapequa, Long Island. He received a degree in Mathematics from Princeton University. He then joined IBM, where he spent his whole career. He married Rochelle soon after graduation. They have two children, Kyra and Joel. Marc did Computer Science Research for IBM, specializing in computer architecture, operating systems, and compilers. After 5 years with IBM in Cambridge, MA, he spent the rest of his career at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and ACM, and a Member of the National Academy of Engineering. His outside interests include music (enjoying, not making), sailing, reading, travel, and a bit of bridge. He is currently Treasurer of Friends of Music Concerts, which brings Chamber Music to Northern Westchester. They are long time members of Congregation Sons of Israel in Briarcliff Manor.
