About the Metro Region

Back to AJC New Jersey HOME

AJC New Jersey’s Metropolitan Region was founded in 1946 as the Essex County Chapter of AJC. AJC Metro’s members and supporters reside in Essex, Morris, Union, Bergen, Hudson and Sussex counties.

AJC Metro sponsors numerous educational programs throughout the year for members and the general community that reflect the depth of AJC's national and international agenda. Members actively participate in advocacy, diplomacy, discussion and study groups—focusing on such issues as the security of Israel, the global war on terrorism, the threat of a nuclear empowered Iran, anti-Semitism, fair and just immigration reform, energy independence, and the protection of civil and religious liberties.

Annual Programming Offered by the Metro Region

AJC Metro sponsors three programs each year for members and potential members that utilize the intimate set-ting of a private home to showcase a presentation by a provocative speaker on subjects which are of interest to the Jewish Community and to AJC.

Bergen County also offers three Parlor and Policy Programs a year, called “A Taste of AJC.”

Since 2009 AJC Metro has been hosting annual programming on Energy Independence. Programs have included a screening of Revenge of the Electric Car and lectures by Anne Korin, author of Turning Oil into Salt.

Each summer, AJC Metro screens movies for its members on a variety of subjects including Israel, Iran, immigration, and energy independence.

AJC Metro also hosts an annual Immigration panel. This panel focuses on educating the community on the importance of fair and just immigration law.

As a part of AJC’s Global diplomatic outreach, AJC Metro has developed diplomatic relationships with local representatives from Greece, India, Panama and Slovakia. Our members are trained by AJC experts in the art of diplomatic conversation.

Each year, AJC Metro holds several award dinners: the Human Relations award dinner which honors a corporate leader, the Judge Learned Hand Award which honors a prominent lawyer, as well as an award dinner honoring a New Jersey leader.

AJC Metro has launched a successful Green Spaces Campaign to promote energy efficient vehicles by providing businesses and Houses of Worship with a durable metal sign for each space in their parking lots they reserve for fuel efficient vehicles
