|Jewish Arguments and Counterarguments|
"Jewish Arguments and Counterarguments," is a collection of Dr. Steven Bayme's essays and occasional writings published by Ktav Publishing House, Inc., in association with the American Jewish Committee. Much of the writing grows out of Dr. Bayme's work as national director of AJC's Department of Contemporary Jewish Life, work he describes in the book as "a life-long labor of love in Jewish public affairs."
Among other issues, Dr. Bayme addresses the interplay of Jewish tradition and modern values in the context of the contemporary Jewish family. Dr. Bayme's writings have contributed to the education of generations of Jews and have shaped the communal debate on such pressing issues as Jewish demography, literacy, intra-Jewish relations, and Israel-Diaspora ties.
"As an active participant in shaping Jewish communal discussion over the past quarter century, Steven Bayme has been ideally suited to reflect on many of the pressing issues facing American Jews," writes Dr. Jack Wertheimer, JTS provost. "These collected essays offer a compelling diagnosis of the challenges facing American Jews - and some valuable prescriptions for healing themselves."
