DR. ERATO KOZAKOU-MARCOULLIS assumed office as Minister of Foreign Affairs on 5 August 2011. Dr. Marcoullis had served as Minister of Communications and Works since 2 March 2010.

At the time of her appointment as Minister of Communications and Works, she was Head of the Working Group on Property, in the UN−sponsored negotiations being held since 2008 between the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities.

Dr. Kozakou-Marcoullis served as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government of the late President Tassos Papadopoulos from July 2007 to February 2008. Along with President Papadopoulos, she had the honour to sign the Treaty of Lisbon on behalf of Cyprus in December 2007.

During 2003−2007 Dr Marcoullis served as Director of the Cyprus Question and the EU−Turkey Affairs Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She was also accredited as Ambassador to Lebanon and Jordan with residence in Nicosia, from 2005 to 2007.

She had previously served as Ambassador to the United States of America from 1998 to 2003, with concurrent accreditation as High Commissioner to Canada, Guyana, and Jamaica and as Ambassador to Brazil. She was also accredited to the World Bank, the IMF, ICAO and the Organization of American States.

From 1996 to 1998 she served as Ambassador to Sweden with concurrent accreditation to Finland, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

She had previously served at the Permanent Mission of Cyprus to the United Nations from 1980 to 1988, the Cyprus Question Division (1988−1993) and as Director of the Permanent Secretary’s Office (1993−1996). During her diplomatic career she also represented Cyprus in numerous Assemblies, Congresses and Conferences of the European Union, the United Nations, the Non−Aligned Movement, the Commonwealth, the Council of Europe, the OSCE and others.

Dr. Kozakou−Marcoullis has lectured extensively in Universities and Think Tanks in the United States, Canada, Sweden, Finland and other countries where she was accredited as Ambassador. She has also granted interviews to many international print and electronic media. In addition, she has published many studies and articles on a wide range of issues, including the Cyprus Problem, Foreign Policy and Cultural Diplomacy. She has also received many Honours and Awards in the United States, Cyprus and other countries.

Minister Marcoullis, daughter of the late Dr George Kozakos, a cardiologist, and the late Barbara Tekmitchova, was born in Limassol in 1949. She is a graduate of Law (1967−1972) and Public Law/Political Science (1972-1974) of the University of Athens and has a Licentiate (PhD) in Sociology and Political Science (1975−1979) from the University of Helsinki. She is fluent in English and has a working knowledge of French and Finnish.

Dr. Kozakou-Marcoullis is married to Dr. George Marcoullis, Oncologist/Haematologist, Professor of Medicine and Chairman of the Committee for the foundation of a Medical School at a private University in Cyprus. They have a son, Panos Marcoullis, MSIST, MS.
