November 29, 1947, the UN General Assembly voted for the Palestine Partition
proposed two states – one Jewish, the other Arab – in land that had previously
been administered by Britain.
Jews accepted the plan. The Arabs rejected it.
was established shortly afterward.
no Arab state was created alongside it.
was the first of several chances the Arabs had to build a nation for the
