In this holiday season, my thoughts always turn to our brave troops.
But this year, there’s something new.
The American military has left Iraq after more than eight years there.
There are debates about the war’s start in 2003, as there are about what will happen now that we’re out of Iraq.
But there can be no debate about the valor and dedication of our servicemen and women.
A grateful nation says thank you, relieved you’re no longer in harm’s way, and ever mindful of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Meanwhile, of course, other American troops are currently deployed in Afghanistan and elsewhere.
At this time of year, when families traditionally gather, every American soldier should know that you’re in our thoughts.
To all our troops, wherever you are, a Happy New Year.
And to our 35 million listeners on over 400 radio stations nationwide, all the best for 2012.
This is David Harris of AJC.
