The full text of this week's commentary follows:

Last week, I was lucky to be in Israel at the same time as Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

It was a sight to behold. He was welcomed like a rock star.

His steadfast support for Israel, and outspoken opposition to rising global anti-Semitism, make him a stand-out among world leaders.

During his visit, Prime Minister Harper became Canada’s first leader to address Israel’s parliament.

He was given a tumultuous ovation.

While his whole speech is well worth reading, here are a few excerpts:

”Canada supports Israel because it is right to do so… It is a Canadian tradition to stand for what is principled and just, regardless of whether it is convenient or popular.”

‘I believe the story of Israel,” he said, “is a great example to the world…”

“Through fire and water, Canada will stand with you [Israel].”

Thank you, Prime Minister Harper, for the courage of your convictions and your moral clarity.
