The full text of this week's commentary follows:

How serious is Israel about making peace with the Palestinians?

Very serious.

One event this week says it all.

Israel is releasing 26 convicted Palestinian terrorists.

We’re talking about people with a lot of blood on their hands, convicted of some of the most horrific crimes imaginable.

And this is the second such release in recent months.

It’s caused a major outcry in Israel, especially from families of the victims.

So why then is the Israeli government going forward?

For one simple reason.

As a gesture of good will to the Palestinian Authority, Israel’s negotiating partner in the current peace talks.

Think about it.

How many governments, including our own, would go this far, with all the attendant risks?

And let’s remember: This release of terrorists doesn’t come after a peace deal is signed, but in the hope of getting to one.

Israel. The more you know, the more you understand.
