As I record this radio commentary, Israel has been targeted by over 200 rockets from Gaza.
Let’s remember a few things.
First, Gaza is under Hamas control.
Yes, the very same Hamas labeled a terrorist group by the United States.
Second, the arms are largely smuggled into Gaza courtesy of Iran.
Yes, the same Iran that is helping Syrian President Assad kill his own people -- and planning deadlier weapons down the road.
And third, Gaza could have gone in a different direction.
Yes, in 2005, Gaza had an historic chance to chart its own future. Tragically, its leaders decided that Israel’s destruction was more important than Gaza’s construction.
Israel will do what it takes to defend its citizens.
But will the international community condemn these terrorist attacks?
Will the smuggling routes to Gaza finally be shut down?
All people of goodwill should speak up. At AJC, we certainly are.
