EU Impedes Hezbollah Terrorism

The full text of this week's commentary follows:

The European Union just took an important step.

The group’s 28 foreign ministers designated Hezbollah’s “military wing” a terrorist group.

That means restrictions on Hezbollah’s ability to operate in Europe.

The American and Canadian governments don’t distinguish between “military” and “non-military” wings.

Both countries rightly see Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, period.

We hope the EU will soon reach the same conclusion.

Meanwhile, AJC welcomes this week’s decision.

And we especially thank six countries:

Bulgaria, which after being attacked last year, courageously pointed the finger at Hezbollah;

Cyprus, which arrested a Hezbollah operative scouting for terror targets and successfully prosecuted him;

Holland, which pressed hard to label all of Hezbollah as a terrorist group;

Britain, which took the lead in the EU to get this measure adopted;

And France and Germany, which lent their considerable weight to the successful effort.

Thank you all!
